Early Life of Robert Llewellyn Parks

Robert Llewellyn Parks was born on January 7th 1921, in Shippensburg, PA.  His parents were George Parks and Laura Parks (Formerly Forsythe); however his mother remarried to Lawrence E. Brown.  From that marriage Robert gained 3 sisters, one was Beverley Jennette Brown and another was Norma M. Brown.  Before he was 9 his family moved to 209 North College Street, Carlisle. He went to the Medical Field Service School on the Carlisle Barracks.  Later, before 1935, he moved to Sharpsburg, PA, to live with his uncle, but later he moved back with his parents at 930 Boas St., Harrisburg.  Though he finished high school at Shippensburg Highschool, and entered the workforce as a stock boy at the Lee Brother Store.

Robert Parks lived on 117 S. Penn St., Shippensburg PA and was only 18 when WWII started on Sept. 1, 1939.   On February 16th, 1942, he registered for the Draft and enlisted on October 7th, 1942, at the enlistment office in Harrisburg, PA, when he was 21.  He began active service on October 21st.

Prior to enlisting, however, Robert worked at the Lee Brothers store with Mary Magdalene McCord.  She was a clerk at the time.  On July 21st, they applied for a marriage license.  They got said license the 25th of July and got married Aug 1st, 1942.   During this period, Robert changed his job from a stock boy at the store to a tailor at the Penn Pants Company.
